About the role

BWB Consulting has an exciting opportunity for a contract Geo-Environmental Consultant or Senior Consultant for an indicative period of six months on a fixed term contract (with the potential to extend this subject to workload and performance) to support our Ground Solutions Team located across our offices at Nottingham, Birmingham and Manchester

The role will be predominantly site-based, with a proportion of office-based work (data compilation/assessment, and reporting) and will involve working as a Geo-Environmental Consultant or Senior Consultant (dependant on experience) within the Service, responsible for managing and overseeing (on site) ground investigations, earthworks and/or remediation activities, including coordination and communication with BWB colleagues (office or site based) and sub-contractors, logging of exploratory holes and ground conditions, keeping good quality site/daily records, scheduling of laboratory testing, data compilation, processing/review assessment and reporting.

You will be given the responsibility for managing aspects of large complex projects as well as small specialist ones.  You will oversee site work and construction ground-work operations (earthworks, ground improvement and/or remediation activities) will be highly organised and technically independent, providing clear and regular communications with colleagues, Clients, and sub-contractors.  The role will be focused on servicing both internal and external clients.

The Ground Solutions team is part of the Environment Group which comprises highly qualified individuals with extensive experience in the Geotechnics, Contaminated Land, Ecology, Flood Risk, Heritage, Air Quality and Acoustic disciplines.  The Environment Group works either as part of multi-disciplinary BWB project teams or independently for a range of key clients.  We provide timely and cost-effective ground consultancy services to the development and property sector on projects of any type or size. 

About you

The ideal candidate will have a degree in a geotechnical/geo-environmental related discipline such as civil/geotechnical engineering, geology, engineering geology, or environmental science, and will probably have between 3 and 10 years’ experience with a geo-environmental consultancy and/or ground investigation specialist. Ideally, they will be progressing towards chartership with a relevant professional institution.

The successful candidates will be able to demonstrate good experience and working knowledge of the following skills/abilities/areas of work:

• Technical knowledge, experience and demonstrable capability as required for ground investigations, earthworks’ supervision and/or delivery of contaminated land projects, including experience of managing and supervising ground investigations, soil and rock logging, soil and groundwater sampling and in-situ testing.
• Experience of supervising and validating earthworks, ground improvement and/or remediation projects.
• Competency with the MS Office suite of programs and ideally experience in compiling exploratory hole records and data manipulation with Holebase are vital.
• Excellent communicator, both written and oral, with the ability to adapt communication style to suit different circumstances.
• Proactive approach with drive, positivity and enthusiasm and a strong desire to succeed.
• Ability to prioritise workloads and manage resources to ensure efficient delivery of projects.
• Ability to deliver work and tasks on time and within budget with a strong focus on client care is essential, as is a willingness to travel. A full driving license is essential.
• A basic understanding of geotechnical and geo-environmental aspects of the working environment and developing awareness of how such risks and liabilities can impact upon land ownership and development would be an advantage.
• Ability to work within a team on multi-disciplinary schemes.
