BWB Consulting has an opportunity for an Apprentice Technician to be based in our Leeds office. The role is working as part of our ambitious growing Building & Built Environment Electrical team. 

As an Apprenticeship Technician, you will play an integral and important part within the Building & Built Environment Electrical team. You will provide support to Team Leaders and other Senior Team Members and with appropriate training, you will soon have the ability to take active involvement in the electrical design consecutively on a range of projects.

You will gain valuable knowledge of the various Techniques and methods used to design, build and maintain electrical engineering systems for projects on time and on budget. Through our Apprenticeship programme, you will acquire knowledge ofappropriate technical and engineering principles relating to the design, delivery and maintenance of infrastructure and buildings.  You will learn knowledge of time management, communication skills, and effective team working.

As an Apprenticeship Structural Technician you will learn and develop your skills in CAD and BIM to select and use appropriate scientific, technical and engineering principles, techniques and methods to contribute to the design and delivery of infrastructure and building projects. You will be introduced to specialist calculation software to enable you to undertake lighting / external lighting design (Relux / Dialux / Lighting Reality) and Low Voltage electrical design (Amtech).

You will be required to enrol and be accepted onto the Level 4 Building Services Engineering Technician Apprenticeship. This will be held at Leeds College of Building on day release during term time. The typical duration for this Apprenticeship is three years. This apprenticeship course will teach you how to plan and instal electrical and mechanical systems within buildings. 

This Apprenticeship will include the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to achieve Technician status with the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (EngTech LCIBSE).  The Technician Professional Review process for EngTech LCIBSE is included in the end-point assessment process for this Apprenticeship and will lead to the designatory letters EngTech LCIBSE and the status of Engineering Technician.

About the team

We are in the middle of very exciting times for our mechanical and electrical building engineering services discipline and indeed for BWB as a whole.  Consequently, we are looking to grow this dynamic and integral team to include increased expertise within our building physics capability.  We currently provide a comprehensive design and advisory service focused on areas such as: -

  • Pre-planning, concept to detailed working design of all mechanical and electrical building engineering services for end users, developers and contractors.
  • Expertise in delivery of projects in a BIM environment embedding production of both calculations and drawings into a common model.
  • Holistic whole life asset cycle consultation services from pre-acquisition surveys, building design and post-occupancy energy compliance for leading portfolio asset management funds.

About you

  • You will have a keen interest in electrical building services engineering and an ability to work sociably as a team player in an often busy environment.
  • 5 GCSEs at Grades A*- C including Maths, English and Science or a Level 2 Apprenticeship. Apprentices without level 2 English and Maths will need to achieve this before taking the end point assessment and will form part of the Level 4 qualification.
  • An aptitude to problem solving and a passion for learning new skills
  • Good communication, organisation and team skills
  • Demonstrable enthusiasm, ambition and a willingness to learn
  • Computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, and ideally some experience using AutoCAD, however this is not essential
  • Take a responsible approach to health and safety
  • Proactive and receptive to constructive advice and guidance
  • Willing to learn new skills and adapt
  • Know one’s limitations and when to ask for help or escalate
  • Work independently when appropriate and take responsibility and pride in your work
  • Demonstrate a positive approach to problem solving
  • Effectively contribute to discussions as part of a team
